Dark Obsession: A Dark Student Teacher Romance (Blackmore University)

You first get introduced to Christine in Cruel Intentions as she is the best friend of the FMC with mentions of Niccolo. I was looking forward to reading Dark Obsession because it has some of my favorite tropes forbidden/taboo, dark, mafia and college. Niccolo is Christine’s Step father and continues to takes care of her after her mothers passing. He soon realizes his obsession with Christine. He tries to keep his thoughts in check but it becomes even more difficult when Christine is enrolled in his Psychology class. Not only is he Christine’s stepfather he is also now her professor. Christine and Niccolo toe the line of right and wrong many times. Niccolo is also the outsider of his family who happens to be part of the Italian Mafia. He chose to take a different path and became a teacher with his PHD instead of going into the family business. Christine is coming into her own and studying to become a child Psychologist. She is extremely attracted to her stepfather but knows that it is wrong to feel that way. She has a very love hate relationship with Niccolo. She knows they shouldn’t toe the line but she can’t help herself when it comes to Niccolo. Her uncles are not happy with the rumors surrounding her unhealthy relationship with Niccolo so they decide to marry her off to a notorious wife beater. The uncles orchestrate many things to get Christine to listen to reasoning and for Niccolo to back off. At one point Christine’s uncle Gio and Rocco (her forced fiancé) corner her at school in a secluded court yard and giver a warning she can’t refuse. Rocco does unspeakable things and Gio just stands there. Thankfully Jackson comes to her rescue. In the end the only way for Niccolo and Christine to be together is for many things to change. Niccolo agrees to officially become part of his families business and for Christine and him to wed. She is against the idea but agrees eventually. The wedding goes off beautifully but of course Christine’s Uncles crash the wedding reception. Niccolo and his brother do what should have been done from the get go and they get what they deserve. “I will never get bored of you Christine. You are everything to me. More than the beats in my heart, more than the blood in my veins. I can’t - no I won’t - imagine a life without you.” - Niccolo

Wow! The plot to this took so many turns that I was left guessing with what would happen next. I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Niccolo and Christine. I also liked how we got a bit of the backstory and how each person tried to fight it for a while. Niccolo really would do anything for his woman and he proved that. The love and devotion he had for her…amazing. When the two finally gave into their own chemistry—oh the spice! Well done!

Wow! One of the things I like about the series is its unpredictability. I was aware of these characters from a previous book, but I could never have predicted the course of their story. Cora Kent does a wonderful job of world building and peoples it with unforgettable characters.

I absolutely loved this book! Niccolo is Christine's stepfather and her professor, so their relationship should be completely taboo. I think it works because there isn't a huge age gap. Even though he was married to Christine's mother, he was a good bit younger than her. There is great chemistry between the main characters. I can't wait for the next book in the series featuring Jackson and Carrie and I hope that all of Niccolo's brothers get their own books.
