Dark and Shallow Lies
"A totally engrossing small-town mystery about what happens when you finally dig up long-buried secrets.” —Jessica Goodman, New York Times bestselling author of They'll Never Catch Us A New York Times bestseller! A teen girl disappears from her small town deep in the bayou, where magic festers beneath the surface of the swamp like water rot, in this chilling supernatural thriller for fans of Natasha Preston, Karen McManus, and E. Lockhart. La Cachette, Louisiana, is the worst place to be if you have something to hide. This tiny town, where seventeen-year-old Grey spends her summers, is the self-proclaimed Psychic Capital of the World—and the place where Elora Pellerin, Grey's best friend, disappeared six months earlier. Grey can't believe that Elora vanished into thin air any more than she can believe that nobody in a town full of psychics knows what happened. But as she digs into the night that Elora went missing, she begins to realize that everybody in town is hiding something—her grandmother Honey; her childhood crush Hart; and even her late mother, whose secrets continue to call to Grey from beyond the grave. When a mysterious stranger emerges from the bayou—a stormy-eyed boy with links to Elora and the town's bloody history—Grey realizes that La Cachette's past is far more present and dangerous than she'd ever understood. Suddenly, she doesn't know who she can trust. In a town where secrets lurk just below the surface, and where a murderer is on the loose, nobody can be presumed innocent—and La Cachette's dark and shallow lies may just rip the town apart.

Why You'll Love This
Kept me guessing! Love this book
I’m absolutely obsessed with this book it gives southern gothic vibes 💕
I read this entire book in a day and a half! Great imagery. Great plot. (I realize I’m being ineloquent with words). Will definitely be looking out for more from this author.
"Knowing is hard," he says, "but it's a thing you can survive. The not knowing will kill you in the end. It's the secrets that fester." First, let me start by thanking the author and publisher for sending me an ARC copy of this book. Now, let me begin by saying that this was the perfect book to read during the Halloween season!! It had all those spooky and gothic vibes that you love to experience during this time of year! I love the southern feel to the authors style of writing with this novel! I feel like it gave the story that much more connection with the reader. The plot is phenomenal, and well thought out! I found myself jumping back and forth for a while trying to figure out who killed Elora. It is full of twist and turns and that New Orleans way of life everyone loves to experience. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves a spooky story about an unsolved disappears in a town full of psychics!
Waiting for another book from the author.
I bought this book for a friend shortly after in came out in September 2021. I found it because I wanted a recently published novel to make sure that I wouldn't buy a book that my friend already had. The cover and synopsis sounded so interesting that I had to pick myself up a copy too, although I ended up reading it almost a year later, in summer 2022. Now it's almost a year on from then, and I still think about Dark and Shallow Lies. Atmospheric, tense, twisty. Give it a read if you like mystery stories with a side of magic!
