Why You'll Love This
I'm not a big fan of paranormal romances, but when I saw that Rachel Van Dyken was writing on, I knew I had to read it. After reading The Dark Ones I may have to change my view on paranormal, because this story is unique, out of this world, and amazing. I read this book in one sitting and didn't want it to end. In The Dark Ones we meet Genesis, a human whose number has been called to serve the immortals. Problem is, once she gets to meet the immortals, she sees everything she has been taught is completely wrong. In her meeting she meets Cassius, the one who summoned her, she's drawn to him, but knows he is not good. Cassius is a "Dark One" and the king of the immortals. When Ethan, and his group hide Genesis, the only way to protect her from Cassius is for one of them to mark her and claim her as their own. Ethan, the sexy vampire and Elder, is the one for the job, but with his history he's not too keen on marking a human again, since the last time didn't work out so well for him. Ethan and Genesis didn't come together under the best circumstances, and both of them had a lot to learn about one another. Ethan also was hesitant to give all of himself over to Genesis in fear she would reject him. Genesis and Ethan are truly beautiful together, and the struggles both of them have gone through are heartbreaking. I loved how when Ethan saw how Genesis was treated by her mother, he wanted to make it right in the only way he knew how. Genesis wouldn't allow it, but I think she definitely got what she had coming to her. When these two finally open up to one another and finally give in, things between them are extremely hot. The chemistry and the connection these two characters have is absolutely beautiful. Cassius is made to out to be evil, but throughout this book, even before the story was over, there was something about him that pulled at my heartstrings and I just wanted to believe he was a good character and wanted the best for him. Granted, he's not good, but at the same time, he's not evil either. He's there to help with balance, and to make sure that the humans are worthy of becoming immortal. Looking back after finishing this story, I understand why Cassius was the way he was, and it made me love him even more. I loved the supporting characters in this story just as much as I loved Genesis, Ethan and Cassius. Alex, the siren, who is hilarious and inappropriate, Mason, the tortured werewolf who is also extremely protective of Genesis, and Stephanie, another siren who takes Genesis under her wing. This group of immortals are quite amazing and I fell in love with each and every one of them in this book and can't wait to read their stories. If you're looking for a hot romance, with a paranormal twist, I highly suggest one-clicking your copy of The Dark Ones today. Rachel Van Dyken wrote a story that is amazing and beautiful and one that I was unable to put down. The world she created in this book and the characters she wrote will stick with you long after finishing this story!
I loved this book so much, it's entertaining and holds your attention the entire way through. Excited to read more of the series.
I am a huge paranormal fan and this story does not disappoint. This is the first story I have read from this author, but not my last. An angel, a siren, a werewolf, and a vampire oh my. Who could ask for more.
I always and absolutely LOVE a good paranormal romance book. Add it to the fact that this story has it all- Vampires , Werewolves,Sirens, Archangels. And I'm sold! Amazing read totally recommending PLUS IT'S FREE!
This book had me sitting reading well past the hour that i normally read in bed could not put it down. I would say that it is on the same par as the Afterlife Saga in that it has a small circle of individual's who are all very interesting in their own right. It is very well paced book never boring not once did i skip a paragraph which is really something for me as i could count on my fingers the ones that i did not skip this book falls into that category.Well written Rachel Van Dyken is someone i shall enjoy reading more of her novels in fact i was so impressed i went on to read another of her novels called Divine Uprising which i am still reading at present and i can say it too is very good so anyone out there that enjoys these kind of stories you won't be disappointed. Rachel Van Dyken well done worth keeping a eye open for future novels from this individual.
4,5 stars. I really enjoyed this book from Rachel van Dyken. So far, I always gave her 4 stars. Enjoyable reads but something was lacking in my book to give more stars. Now this one was truly interesting and gives an original view of a brand new paranormal world. The concept is well thought with Dark Ones being part angels par human, reigning on other immortals like Sirens, Vampires and Werewolves. Genesis comes from a family raised to help and serve the immortals. Once she's been chosen, she'll soon realise everything she's been told was a lie. To save the human and their race, one immortal will be "forced" to mate with her and will be full of conflicting emotions about it. The immortals were hot (of course), the story interesting, the side characters each play a role in the story and I now have a fondness from a particular werewolf berries eater named Mason. He may well be my favorite character. So if you like paranormal stories, this is a good one and you should try it! I'll read about Cassius's story with great pleasure now. Oh and Mrs Van Dyken, if you could write something about Mason and give him some hope and happy ending too..
